About 105 Gibson Centre

Situated at 105 Gibson Drive in Markham, 105 Gibson Centre is a 47,000-square-feet Christian centre. Our mission is to serve the locals and those in need, and to share with them the compassion and hope of Jesus. We provide diversified social services, such as youth programs, older adults wellness community education, career counseling, food bank, cultural and recreational activities. 105 Gibson Centre also partners with various local organizations to provide comprehensive tailor-made services to the residents in the community and surrounding neighbourhoods. 105 Gibson Centre opened in Oct 2013 is now seven years old. Running for around 80 hours a week, we have captured 50,000 visits through rental and programs and some 7,000 individuals have registered to our programs or services. We believe that we have delivered relevant services to the ethnically diverse neighbourhoods in the catchment area.   105 Gibson Youth Services is a platform for vocation exploration for youth and youth workers. We are to develop youth and young workers to desire living life to the full and nurture them to have an openness towards transformation in Jesus Christ, through loving involvement and contribution in the local community.

We are looking for a candidate for the following post immediately:

Youth Development Manager (30 Hours per Week to start, with possible Full-time position in 2023)

Position Description

In collaboration with and reporting to the Director of Youth Services, the Youth Development Manager leads the execution and development of strategies on the vocation exploration programming for multi-cultural high school and teenage youth at 105 Gibson Centre. The Youth Development Manager is a hands-on and relational youth worker with an outreaching mindset to fulfill Youth Services’ goals and objectives under 105 Gibson strategic goals, including adult and youth volunteer recruitment.

Primary responsibilities

Leadership and Outreach

  • Build relationship with community stakeholders and youth for partnership and nurturing
  • Lead, plan and execute on existing high school/teenagers service, including community youth weekly programs, youth volunteer program, tutoring programs etc.
  • Lead, plan and execute new vocation exploration programming with multicultural elements for high school/teenagers service

Connection

  • Develop and Care for the youth in the programs and in the community
  • Recruit and train adult and youth volunteers for Youth Services
  • Network with youth and youth organizations with different cultural backgrounds to provide services collaboratively
  • Volunteer in local high schools to meet with youth in our neighborhood
  • Support other youth programs happened in the Centre by participating in them, making visits, or act as backup as necessary;
  • Coordinate with 105 Gibson internal services for youth development opportunities
  • Collect feedback from participants and volunteers for program improvement
  • Coordinate, set up and look after booths for promoting 105 Gibson youth programs in schools and appropriate institutes and organizations

Administrative

  • Maintain database of youth programs participants/volunteers and generate report regularly
  • Execute administrative work related to the Youth Services programs
  • Execute ad hoc duties assigned by the Director of Youth Services

 

Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities and Personal Characteristics

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in youth-related programs, seminary degree or adequate theological training with a youth or pastoral focus preferred

Experience

  • 2 years or more on related work experience, including team management
  • Experience in a not-for-profit and/or faith-based setting preferred
  • Experience in developing pilot initiative preferred
  • Experience in multi-media production leadership preferred
  • Experience in setting up social media and online communication with youth preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Proven understanding of community youth work
  • Strong ability with social media communication
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills and public speaking skills
  • Strong team leadership skills and experience in developing youth and volunteers
  • Strong skills in project management, direct marketing and budget management
  • Ability to achieve administrative responsibilities on time
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work with computers, office software, and database management
  • Fluent in a language other than English preferred
  • Able to drive and have own vehicle
