Hiring: Cultural Fair Coordinator

Date Range: June 24 – August 31, 2024

Location: 105 Gibson Drive, Markham ON, L3R 3K7

Wage: $ 18.00 / hr (maximum 200 hours)

 

Position Description:

This is a short-term contract position. We are looking for a Coordinator to facilitate in the planning and execution of a one-day Ukrainian Cultural Fair at the 105 Gibson Centre located in South Markham.

 

This Ukrainian Cultural Fair Event is tentatively planned to take place on Saturday August 24, 10am – 3:30pm at the 105 Gibson Centre. Its purpose is to provide a safe space and venue for the local Ukrainian community to celebrate and showcase their culture through food, music, dance, arts, crafts, clothing, and other displays. This event will engage local Ukrainian newcomers into a community-building event as well as recruiting some to becoming volunteers in the planning, facilitating, and supporting of this cultural day. Finally, this will be an opportunity for people from other cultural backgrounds to learn and deeper appreciate the Ukrainian culture.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Working with and reporting directly to Supervisor (Community Needs Manager) to develop, promote, and execute this one-day event on August 24, 2024 (10am-3:30pm)
  • Working closely and cooperatively with other 105Gibson staff who will be supporting this event
  • Training and supervision of volunteers (of all ages)
  • Promoting team unity and leadership development
  • Demonstrating clear and healthy communication
  • Planning will begin in mid-June and until the day of the event with more hours invested closer to the event

 

Skills and Requirements:  

 

  • In agreement with the Mission and Vision Statement of the Centre
  • Display a passion for building relationships and working with other Ukrainian partners to develop resources and increase networking for the event
  • Team player with ability to positively influence, motivate and instruct the planning team
  • Very good at critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Basic administrative and management skills – must be organized and accountable
  • Good organizational skills, ability to motivate others and creativity
  • Connections with local Ukrainian communities and fluency in the Ukrainian and/or Russian language.
