Tiffany was frustrated and unhappy when she and her family immigrated to Toronto five years ago from China. She found it very difficult to adjust to the new lifestyle, culture and language. She had trouble keeping up at school and could not make new friends. Distressed, she even wanted to return to China. But she had to struggle on amidst all these unpleasant experiences.
One day at her ESL Class, she heard about 105 Gibson’s “40 Hours & Beyond” program whose objective was to help high school students find volunteer opportunities and to offer career guidance. Tiffany immediately registered and this was her first time attending a program in a Christian setting.
She volunteered in “40 Hours and Beyond” and met new friends. The counsellors were all volunteers who tirelessly helped everyone with their individual needs. The caring atmosphere made Tiffany feel warm and welcome She joined “A Meal Together” later where she learned of the truth and accepted Jesus Christ as her saviour. Through faith, she discovered her purpose in life and now lives joyfully and meaningfully. Tiffany has developed deeper friendships and learned about unity. Like in a big family, everyone is united to help each other.
She said, “A Meal Together is a very meaningful program. I can’t imagine what my life would have been like had I not joined the 105 Gibson programs!” Recently her younger sister has joined the activities here too!
Tiffany now attends university but will never forget her experience here. She expresses her heartfelt gratitude to the organizers, counsellors and volunteers of “40 Hours & Beyond” and “A Meal Together”. Their energy and loving contribution helped everyone learn and grow in a joyful environment.
