BEHAVIORAL CONSULTATION SERVICE AND TRAINING
About Us:
What are Behavioural Consultation Service and training? (What is ABA?)
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) treatment is an evidence-based behavioural health practice, based in the science of behaviour and learning, used to improve social significant behaviour in individuals with various developmental disabilities, most commonly, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Treatment is individualized to the specific strengths and needs of the client.
Treatment goals are determined in a collaborative process and treatment decisions are based on ongoing evaluation through assessment, direct observation, measurement, and analysis. Treatment protocols are implemented repeatedly, frequently, and consistently across people and learning contexts to help with generalization and fuel success. As such, caregiver participation and collaboration with the treatment team are essential to treatment success. Differential reinforcement (that is, rewarding desired behavior and withholding rewards for undesired behavior), prompting, modelling, and environmental manipulations are some examples of techniques used in ABA treatment.
How Can ABA Help? (Why Use It?)
ABA treatment can be used to improve behaviour and teach a variety of skills. Benefits of ABA include improved independence, socialization, empowerment, and more. ABA empowers the individuals involved and can improve the quality of life of the direct client and those around them. See below for a non-exhaustive list of behavioural areas that can improve with ABA.
“The successful remediation of core deficits of ASD, and the development or restoration of abilities, documented in hundreds of peer-reviewed studies published over the past 50 years, has made ABA the standard of care for the treatment of ASD.” (The Council of Autism Service Providers, 2020)

Service Description
The Behavioural Consultation team at 105 Gibson offers the following services: behavioural assessment, treatment plan development and modification, consultation, caregiver/mediator training, and discharge/transition planning.
Behavioural assessment, consultation, and caregiver/mediator training work hand-in-hand and treatment is delivered over the course of several sessions across time. Through behavioural assessments, we will determine the strengths and needs of your child. Based on the results of the behavioural assessment, treatment recommendations will be made. Together with the clinician, families will set goals and treatment objectives, and treatment activities will be determined. Caregivers and mediators will be trained in the methods of ABA to implement treatment recommendations, and regular observations of the client with the caregiver or mediator will be scheduled, and activities assigned. Behavioural consultation sessions to evaluate progress and goals are scheduled regularly. At these meetings, data and treatment recommendations will be reviewed and evaluated, and next steps provided. The emphasis of services is on working together to achieve meaningful outcomes for the individual and the family at-large.
Based on the assessment outcomes and treatment goals, the team will work together with the family to recommend and establish a schedule of activities at an intensity and frequency that will facilitate successful outcomes with the resources available. Many options can be considered based on the needs of the family and services can be provided synchronously or asynchronously, online or in-person in various settings.
Please note that we do not make diagnoses and, at this time, do not offer direct one-to-one Comprehensive treatment by a frontline team (e.g., RBTs) . Outcomes are not guaranteed as each child learns differently. However, ABA can greatly enhance an individual and family’s long-term quality of life. Our team will strive to help your child reach their full potential collaboratively together with you.
Service Range
We serve children age 2 to 12 with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities. However, a diagnosis is not required to be eligible for services. Special considerations may also be given to children outside this age range depending on their individual profiles, the needs of the child and family, and our current service competencies.
Prior to the start of services, a 30-minute meeting is scheduled to better understand the goals of the family and family perspective on treatment, as well as to introduce families to the methods employed in ABA and what to expect. An evaluation will be made at that time whether 105 Gibson can appropriately provide treatment through our service model or if direct treatment is required, in which case, referrals to third-parties and resources can be provided.
