The Thrift Store first started operations in 2015 and in 2016, it generated over $50,000 from sales. Between April to July this year, the revenue has already reached $48,000. God always gives us more than what we ask for!
One of our challenges is the lack of retail management expertise but God continues to provide for us. I have volunteered at Salvation Army’s Thrift Store since 2014 and one day, I met a customer who had extensive purchasing experience in China and also has a relative who runs an antique store in China. This customer is now a volunteer at the Thrift Store, managing the jewellery section which has become a key attraction at the store.
Our volunteers give their time but are also customers and continue to give in other ways. I was deeply moved by one volunteer who anonymously donated $100 to a missionary who had visited the store.
With the support of our committed volunteers, we are able to bless 105 Gibson’s regular users such as food bank clients, Syrian refugees and others from low income families. With God’s grace, we can even donate extra inventories to Diabetes Canada, Grace Anglican Church and a local women’s shelter. We are reaching to more needy people than we ever dreamed we could. This is truly a testament of God’s blessings flowing into the community through us!
